Overview
Cordyceps is the outlier in our four-mushroom range.
Unlike Lion’s Mane and Reishi, where we specifically select fruiting body material, Cordyceps CS-4 is a cultured mycelial preparation.
That distinction matters.
CS-4 is produced through controlled liquid fermentation rather than growing mycelium through a mass of cereal grain and grinding the whole substrate into powder.
The resulting fungal material is then hot-water extracted at a 6:1 ratio and standardised against measurable composition markers.
Each capsule contains 400 mg of the finished Cordyceps CS-4 extract preparation.

Background
Cordyceps has one of the most unusual histories in the mushroom world.
The name is associated with a group of fungi known for their distinctive biological relationship with insects and other hosts.
Naturally occurring Cordyceps material has historically been collected in high-altitude regions of Asia, but modern supplement production uses cultivated forms that can be produced consistently and at scale.
CS-4 belongs to that cultivated tradition.
Rather than attempting to replicate a conventional mushroom fruiting body, the fungal mycelium is cultured through liquid fermentation under controlled conditions.
That makes Cordyceps fundamentally different from the fruiting-body Lion’s Mane and Reishi extracts elsewhere in our range.
We think that difference should be explained rather than hidden.

A Note on the Extract Preparation
We believe mushroom products should be described accurately, including the details that are sometimes left out.
The Cordyceps CS-4 fungal material itself is produced using liquid fermentation rather than being grown on cereal grain.
The finished extract preparation contains less than 20% water-soluble non-GMO corn starch as part of the processing system.
We therefore don't describe this product as a completely carrier-free extract.
What matters to us is being clear about what's actually present and verifying the fungal compound profile rather than relying on marketing terminology.
How It Fits
Cordyceps CS-4 can be taken individually or used as part of a wider mushroom routine.
Our previous Four Mushroom Blend contained 100 mg of Cordyceps per capsule, providing 200 mg in the recommended two-capsule serving.
Each capsule of this standalone product contains 400 mg of Cordyceps CS-4 extract preparation.
That gives you the option to give Cordyceps a much more prominent place within your mushroom routine rather than taking it automatically as one-quarter of a fixed blend.
It can also be paired with Lion’s Mane, Reishi or Chaga while following the directions given for each product.

Composition / Structure
The CS-4 extract contains a complex range of naturally occurring fungal compounds.
The specification includes:
-
Polysaccharides
-
Mannitol
-
Adenosine
-
Cordycepin
-
Ergosterol
-
Ergothioneine
The product is supplied as a complete extract preparation rather than as an isolated single compound.
Compound Profile & Verification
Each batch is tested using LC-ESI-QTOF-MS.
Certificate of Analysis data is available for compounds including:
-
Adenosine
-
Cordycepin
-
D-Mannitol
-
Ergosterol
-
Ergothioneine
The specification also requires:
-
Adenosine above 0.38%
-
Polysaccharides above 25%
-
Mannitol above 10%
This provides a more useful picture of the extract than an extraction ratio alone.
Processing / Production
The CS-4 fungal mycelium is produced using liquid fermentation.
After cultivation, the material undergoes hot-water extraction at a 6:1 ratio before being dried into a consistent extract preparation.
This differs from products made by growing mycelium through cereal grain and then grinding the complete grain substrate into powder.
The finished extract preparation contains less than 20% water-soluble non-GMO corn starch used as part of the production process.

How It Compares
Compared with grain-grown mycelium products
CS-4 is produced through liquid fermentation rather than by growing fungal mycelium through a cereal substrate and grinding the entire material into a finished powder.
Compared with fruiting-body extracts
Cordyceps CS-4 is intentionally a mycelial preparation.
That makes it fundamentally different from our Lion’s Mane and Reishi products, which use fruiting bodies.
We don't think “fruiting body only” should become a blanket marketing rule applied to every mushroom. What matters is understanding which material is being used, why it is being used, and whether the finished extract can be properly characterised and verified.
Compared with our previous Four Mushroom Blend
Our previous Four Mushroom Blend contained 100 mg of Cordyceps per capsule.
The standalone product contains 400 mg of Cordyceps CS-4 extract preparation per capsule.
The individual format gives you control over how prominently Cordyceps features within your routine.
