FAQs

What is Irish Sea Moss?

Irish Sea Moss, Chondrus crispus, is a red algae found along the Atlantic coast and has been traditionally used as a natural food source.

Is all sea moss the same?

No. Different species are often sold under the same name. True Irish sea moss refers specifically to Chondrus crispus.

Is sea moss the same as seaweed?

Sea moss is a type of seaweed, but not all seaweed is sea moss. The term “seaweed” refers to a broad group of marine plants and algae. Sea moss refers specifically to certain species of red algae, most notably Chondrus crispus, which grows along the Atlantic coast.

In practice, many products labelled as “sea moss” use different species, often tropical varieties such as Gracilaria. These are not the same as true Irish sea moss and can differ in structure, growing conditions, and overall composition.

For accuracy and consistency, we use only Chondrus crispus sourced from the Atlantic coast of Ireland.

Why choose capsules instead of gel?

Capsules provide a simple and consistent way to include sea moss in your routine, without the need for preparation or refrigeration. They also allow for a more consistent and repeatable intake compared to homemade gels.
